I remember when I was a kid and the elephants had only a small enclosure, before Trail of the Elephants opened - seeing them getting an even bigger space makes my heart so warm ❤ The ex-principal of my primary school worked at the Zoo (I *think* in a volunteer role?) after he retired, and it was always fun seeing him near the elephants when we'd go on school excursions!

It's like checking on a fruit to see if it's ripe.

I am 73.so many species of flora and fauna have become extinct or endangered my lifetime I have lost count. When I see a group trying to preserve a species, especially a predator or an “ugly” species, it fills my heart with hope. But the climb is so high and when I think about how we’re up against the political power of great wealth some of that hope fades. I pray that the generations after me will accomplish what mine could not.
